The Coastal Discovery Museum will host Robert Rommel for “Fish-eating Birds” on December 13 at 3 pm. Hilton Head Island is surrounded by saltwater and numerous freshwater lagoons that dot the land and these habitats are teeming with fish which makes an important food source for the birds of the lowcountry. This talk will look at some of the behaviors and adaptations that the birds of the area use to hunt fish. You will learn how the ecology of the fish and bird species are tightly intertwined.
Rommel received degrees in biology and ecology from Princeton University and the University of Michigan. He now works as a wildlife photographer based out of the lowcountry and traveling across North America.
Cost is $7 per person (ages 12 and older, please) and reservations are required by calling 843-689-6767 ext. 223.
