Holiday Market at Coastal Discovery Museum

The Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head Island is hosting a 3-day “Holiday Market” on November 22 through November 24, from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Each day has a different theme, with lots to offer the shopper that wants to get a head start on the holidays.
Monday is “Sea Turtle Day”, and you will meet our “turtle lady” Terri Johnson and her “man on the beach” when you purchase your Adopt-A-Nest for 2022.  You will leave with your completed certificate and the items that are included with your adoption.  The first 50 adopters will receive an extra turtle gift.  Doreen Baumann, author of “Sid and the Fiddler Crab” and Susan Diamond Riley author of “The Sea Turtle’s Curse” and “The Sea Island Secret” will be on hand with their books.  Ann Lilly, author of “Scoot’s New Home” and “Scoot’s Savannah Rescue” will also be at the museum.  The gift shop will have unique ornaments, toys, puzzles, art and other items for your holiday shopping.  The lab will be open for “Discovery Time in the Lab” starting at 2 pm and continuing until 4, with sessions at 2:00, 2:30, 3:00 and 3:30.  Reservations are required and may be made by calling 843-689-6767 ext. 223.  Cost is $4 adult, $2 child (ages 2-12).  In addition, a turtle craft will be made in the lab that day.
Tuesday is “Food Gifts” and Roland Washington from We Island Gumbo, will be in the kitchen with his lowcountry gumbo, samples from Charleston Tea, Honey Horn Honey and preserves and pickles from Lowcountry Produce will also be available.  Bev Jennings will be in the museum from 11-2 to sign her book, “Shrimp Tales”, the perfect coffee table book to give as a gift. Author Steven Plummer will have “Where Have all the Shrimp Boats Gone?” available for purchase and autograph.  The Farmers Market will be open from 9-1 in the field and many of those vendors will have items to purchase for gifts.
Wednesday is “Art and Book Gifts” day.  Sweet grass baskets from Michael Smalls and Dino Badger, Shell ornaments by Mary, Ornate Oyster Shells from Jackie Pierce, prints from Marquita Willis, jewelry from Rose Willis and sweet grass ornaments and jewelry from Daurus Niles will all be on site with their gift items.
Membership to the museum will be available for purchase all three days and existing current members will have the opportunity to enter for a special holiday food basket.
The latest exhibit “Volumes of Light: The Amazing Lanterns of Chantelle Rytter” will be on display in the Gallery. Rytter is the artist behind the Hilton Head Island Lantern Parade and her lanterns, puppets, drawings, sketchbooks, photographs, and other ephemera will be on display.
Masks are required for attendees over the age of 3 years old inside the Discovery House and Discovery Lab and we ask that social distancing be observed.
