The King’s Counterpoint are very excited to be promoting Vox Regis in concert in September. The ensemble will be presenting ‘Handel in Italy – Sacred Masterpieces of the Baroque.’ The ensemble is being joined by members of the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra in Handel’s two masterpieces, Dixit Dominus and Nisi Dominus, which he wrote in 1707. Handel lived in Italy from 1706 to 1710, producing glorious exciting music that stands alone as some of the most complex and stunning choral music of his career. He was only 22 when he composed these works and they are brimming with beautiful arias and stunning chorus lines. Also included in the programme is Francesco Durante’s (1684-1755) Magnificat, originally attributed to Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736). This is a beautifully illustative and exciting piece, with memorable solos, duets and choruses.
