The Lowcountry Turkey Trot
Work off some of those holiday calories while running through the beautiful SC Lowcountry
Worried about all the calories you’re about to devour during Thanksgiving? Save yourself some stress by participating in one of the many Turkey Trots in the Lowcountry. This fun tradition is very popular in our neck of the woods. Not only will you be doing something healthy, most races benefit a good cause. Here’s a sample of what we have to offer.
If you’re in Beaufort the LowCountry Habitat for Humanity FUN 5K Race will be held on Thanksgiving morning in downtown Beaufort. Bring your stroller and dog with you. They’re both welcome.
The certified 5K course will start at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, at the intersection of Bay & Newcastle Streets. Participants will run down Bay Street and cross the Woods Memorial Bridge to Lady’s Island. Runners continue down Meridian Rd to Youmans Drive and double back the same route to Freedom Mall.
Age categories: under 12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+
Prizes awarded to overall top three Male and Female and top 2 in age divisions. Please note that awards will start at 8:45 a.m. They want to make sure everyone gets home for turkey as soon as possible.
If you’re on the island, the 30th Annual Hilton Head Island Rec Center Turkey Trot 5K will begin in front of the Skull Creek Dockside and wind through Hilton Head Plantation. There is a Fun Walk as well. It is a mile-long loop through Squire Gate. The race and walk will start at 8 a.m. No pets please. Strollers are permitted but must start in the back of the pack.
The Amazing Grace Pure Guts Award will be given to the top female and male (14 year and under.) The top 3 males and females will also be awarded. Each participant will also receive a participant medal.

Start your Thanksgiving off with a 5K run through Historic Downtown Bluffton at the 10th Annual Historic Bluffton Turkey Chase.
The race begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Bluffton Oyster Factory Park on Wharf Street.

The Walterboro Turkey Trot starts at 8:30 a.m. Race registration and course information are available at the Walterboro-Colleton Chamber of Commerce, 403 E. Washington Street.
The course will start at the county parking lot on the corner of Jefferies and Washington Streets then runs through historic Walterboro & the Walterboro Wildlife Sanctuary.
If shopping is not in your plans for Black Friday, head over to Bluffton for the Palmetto Bluff Turkey Trot. The race begins at 9 a.m. at the River House in Wilson village and winds through the beautiful property of Palmetto Bluff. Bring the strollers and dogs, because they are welcome. There’s even a special medal for the 1st Place dog!
100% of the registration fee from the Turkey Trot goes to benefit the Bluffton/Hilton Head Chapter of Meals on Wheels.
