Bats of the Lowcountry

Join us at the Coastal Discovery Museum on November 20 at 2 pm for this exciting program about bats.  Bats are often portrayed negatively, fostering fear and misunderstanding.  Lydia Moore, research and education coordinator of the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy, will discuss the beneficial roles of bats in the Lowcountry.  Join us and learn why bats are essential components of ecosystems, why it is crucial that we study them, and about ongoing research at the Bluff.
Moore became enthralled with conservation and ecology as a child growing up next to a saltwater marsh in Charleston.  She pursued this passion at Oberlin College where she double majored in biology and environmental studies.  Lydia is a community ecologist and has conducted research in Ohio, New Mexico, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.
Cost is $7 per person and reservations are required by calling 843-689-6767 ext. 223.  The museum is located at 70 Honey Horn Drive on Hilton Head Island.
