Art in South Carolina Lowcountry

The pristine beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry inspires artists to create stunning landscape scenes from the natural “canvas” that envelopes their daily lives. Salt marshes, beach palms and vast wildlife make great subjects for local artists. Art galleries are a major part of most Lowcountry destinations. Beaufort has an abundance of art prints, original painting, sculptures, photography and pottery. Historic Downtown Bluffton has wrought iron sculptures along with paintings, prints and posters.

Take a boat over to Daufuskie Island to visit an iron sculptor and pottery display. Edisto Island has many photography studios, paintings, and prints. On Hilton Head Island, you can paint your own pottery.

You can also find golf and sports prints along with paintings and sculpture. Cross the bridge from Beaufort to St. Helena Island to visit the island galleries featuring Gullah artwork. Venture up to Walterboro to visit the SC Artisans Center where they feature folk art from local artists.
