The Coastal Discovery Museum has announced a presentation on “Marine Predators of Port Royal Sound” for March 28 at 3 pm in the Discovery House. The number and diversity of the top marine predators in our Port Royal Sound estuarine system is the best indicator of the health of its food chain, from phytoplankton to sharks. The Port Royal Sound Estuarine System is frequented by a great variety of top predators that depend on our protecting this unique marine ecosystem both as a food source and as a spawning ground.
Dave Harter will tell the story of these largely unseen and underappreciated creatures through the fisherman’s eyes from the early 1800’s to today. Harter is an avid fisherman and conservationist with decades of exploring the Port Royal Sound waters. He is the President of the Hilton Head Island Sportfishing Club, Director for the Hilton Head Reef Foundation and a tour guide for SCDNR’s Waddell Mariculture Center.
The cost of the program is $7.00 per person and reservations are required by calling 843-689-6767 ext 223.
