Join the Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage for “Liberty and Its Limits: Free People of Color, the Enslaved, and the American Revolution in South Carolina,” presented by historian Dr. David W. Dangerfield as part of our Freedom’s Many Fronts Speaker Series.
In this presentation, Dr. Dangerfield will explore the experiences of free people of color and enslaved South Carolinians during the American Revolution and the important contributions they made during the fight for American independence. The program will examine the difficult choices African Americans faced during the conflict, the opportunities offered by the British, their roles alongside American Patriots, and the ways they pursued freedom during the Revolution and its immediate aftermath.
