Join us for a FREE screening of the 30-minute documentary film, “Gullah Geechee Corridor & the East Coast Greenways”!
The film highlights the rich St. Johns County, Florida connection to the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor found in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
Colleton Connection: Mr. Derek Boyd Hankerson’s grandmother Ethel Murray was native to Walterboro, S. Carolina.
Derek Hankerson the documentary’s filmmaker, and producer has made four films about American history, including the Gullah Geechee Corridor and the East Coast Greenway. He also produces an annual festival that celebrates the community’s history and lectures a class about the Gullah-Geechee culture.
“Growing up, I knew a lot about our history,” he said. “But I never saw it in the textbooks. I never saw stories that reflected me.”
